Artist statement:

”As a woman who doesn’t match the typical “Australian visual aesthetic” I am frequently asked where I come from. This artwork expresses my struggles with my identity as a Jewish Australian after years of trying to assimilate; often feeling disconnected from my cultural heritage.

I ironically used a figure with opposing features to me: blonde with light skin, to portray that I intrinsically feel "Australian". Her elongated, detached arms are the link between me and the question, "where do you come from?"“

This artwork was exhibited in my solo exhibition, 'Mid-sentence' at Gatakers Artspace in Maryborough, QLD in April - June 2022.

Carefully drawn with high quality Staedtler pencils on the prestigious Magnani L'Antica 300gsm paper.
